2008 Fullcourt Press Spring League: Report I

(March 7, 2008)

The 2008 Fullcourt Press Spring League has been in full swing the past two Sundays at Cabrillo HS (Long Beach CA) and has consisted of 12 individual (“Select”) teams as well as 10 club (“Elite”) squads such as Belmont Shore, Compton Magic and 2D1 Basketball Academy.

There are several talented players participating.  Below are 10 of those top performers:

Renaldo Woolridge
    6’8”     2008   Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood CA)

Although already signed, sealed and delivered to Tennessee,  Renaldo has displayed his desire to keep working on getting better and gaining more and more experience.  Woolridge has been spectacular at times here – exhibiting both athletic moves high above the rim as well as amazing spectators with his deep perimeter range.

Victor Rudd
6’8”     2009   Van Nuys (Van Nuys CA)

Long, athletic and well-built combo-forward has a nice overall skill package and can be a force on the offensive end when hot.  As Rudd continues to hone his shooting touch from the perimeter, look for him to rise in the national junior rankings.  Great upside!

Deonta Burton     6’2”     2010   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)

Strong and physical guard has real ability to make plays at both ends.  One of the top sophomore perimeter prospects in the nation.

Jerry Evans
          6’6”     2009   Leuzinger (Lawndale CA)

The first thing you notice when looking at Evans is his huge feet which indicates that he may very well not be done growing.  Jerry is very scrawny but is athletic and can finish in transition.  Looks to follow in a long line of Leuzinger players (Dorrell Wright/Miami Heat, Russell Westbrook/UCLA and Donnell Beverly/UConn) that have been notorious late-bloomers.

Kyle Fogg
            6’3”     2008   Brea-Olinda (Brea CA)

Fogg had a great senior year and this crafty combo-guard can really score as well as being an underrated defender.  Looks to be among the top West Coast unsigned senior guards this spring.

Charles Odum
   6’2”     2008   Mayfair (Lakewood CA)
Strong and athletic combo-guard (ala Anthony Carter/Denver Nuggets) is an excellent slashing scorer and improving ballhandler.

Stephon Heard    6’6”     2009   Jordan (Long Beach CA)
Heard had a somewhat disappointing junior year, but this athletic swingman was impressive last weekend – knifing to the hoop for dunks, running the floor like a deer and disrupting passing lanes on defense.  One to track this spring!

Kyle Clark       6’11”  2008   Lakewood (Lakewood CA)

Very improved center has made great strides and has the right work-ethic and attitude to keep getting better.   Excellent student has a nice scoring touch around the basket and runs well for his size.

Paul Frazell
    6’2””   2008   Servite (Anaheim CA)

Frazell is a smooth combo-guard with an excellent perimeter stroke and a nice feel for the game.

RJ Farrell
       6’4”     2009   Villa Park/Villa Park CA)

Skilled off-guard has nice range on jump shot and is a tough competitor.
