2007 Fullcourt Press Las Vegas Fall Showcase Report

By Dinos Trigonis

(December 23, 2007)

The 2007 Fullcourt Press Las Vegas Fall Showcase was held last month (November) at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy (Las Vegas NV).  On hand this year were scouts like Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press & Hoop Scoop), Evan Daniels (Scouthoops.com), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Patrick Stanwood (Hoop Scoop & Hoopmasters) and Chris Cook (Nevada Prep Report & Hoop 101) as well as Bob Gottlieb (Branch West Recruiting Assistance Service).  Virtually all of Sin City’s top players were in attendance.  Here we focus on several of the event’s top prospects.

Class of 2008 Top Performers

Deremy Geiger        5’11”  Canyon Springs

(Las Vegas NV)

Very quick point has nice ability to beat defenders off the dribble and is a pesky defender.  One of the West Coast’s most unsung playmakers signed with Utah State this fall.

Mike Elliott                6’0”     El Dorado

(Las Vegas NV)

Excellent defender is one of the West Coast’s most underrated unsigned senior point guards.  Elliott (a 2007 Pangos All-American Camp participant) is a dependable ballhandler and fine passer that should be an object of interest for D-I programs in need of a quality lead guard this spring.

Quintin (Q) Dailey        6’3”     Bishop Gorman
(Las Vegas NV)

Sleek scoring wing has nice ability to slash to the basket and finish.  Smooth player has nice ballhandling skills and is an active defender.  One of the West Coast’s top unsigned senior players.  Father (of same name) was a San Francisco star and NBA player.

Raveon Samuel           6’5”     Canyon Springs
(Las Vegas NV)

Strong and very athletic wing forward is a high-flyer as well as an excellent football prospect.

Curtis Malone               6’4”     El Dorado
(Las Vegas NV)
Crafty wing can really score and is a lethal slashing scorer.  Intriguing potential.

Tenacious Gibson             6’3”     Spring Valley (Las Vegas NV)

Lefty is a terrific sharpshooter and active defender.   Plays with passion and is a vocal leader.

Ronnie Norsworthy           6’8”     Spring Valley (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic and very long post works hard rebounding and defending.   Very high upside!

Gerald Pitts                          6’2”     Spring Valley (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic wing is a very effective slashing scorer and good student (3.1 GPA).

Sandro Maric                       6’5”     Durango (Las Vegas NV)

Very good shooter has a nice basketball IQ.   Solid student (2.8 GPA).

Josh McCarver                   6’8”     Green Valley (Henderson NV)

Post with quality size has improved substantially over the past year and has the potential to be a very good rebounder and defender at the college level.  Decent student (2.6 GPA/1590 SAT).

Adam Young                       6’8”     Centennial (Las Vegas NV)

Physical post player is somewhat raw but is very improved and has the right attitude and work-ethic to evolve into a solid player down the road.  Young started his senior season on the right note with a 23 point/10 board performance in a win over Bonanza.  One to keep an eye on.

Kevin Wilson                       6’7”     Canyon Springs (Las Vegas NV)

Active rebounder and defender patrols the paint with intensity.

Jonathan Kirvin                  6’10”  Legacy (Las Vegas NV)

Kirvin is far from a finished product, but he is huge and appears to be an intriguing prospect worth placing at a JUCO for continued development and potential future D-I use

Devonte Christopher        6’1”     Canyon Springs (Las Vegas NV)

Solid defender plays hard at both ends. 2007 Nevada State Football Player of the Year (QB)

Ricky Henry                         6’5”     Cheyenne (North Las Vegas NV)

Athletic and strong forward is a force on the glass.

Christofer Hayes                6’2”     Centennial (Las Vegas NV)

Active defender has solid perimeter skills.

Tyronne White                    6’4”     Independent Studies (Las Vegas NV)

Class of 2009 Top Performers

/i/z10 LV Showcase/Anthony_Marshall_-_Article_Pic_4.jpg

Anthony Marshall               6’2”     Mojave
(North Las Vegas NV)
Savvy and athletic combo-guard is a tremendous competitor and rises to the occasion when the game is on the line.  Crafty scorer and opportunistic defender plays with a purpose and has a motor that allows him to get to the basket and finish with regularity.   Gonzaga, Colorado State, UNLV, Washington and Miami FL among the growing number of schools showing interest in this Top 100 national prospect.  Very good student (3.5 GPA).

Elijah Johnson                   6’2”     Cheyenne
(North Las Vegas NV)
Johnson is an athletic lead guard that many are projecting as a point at the next level, but this nationally heralded prospect plays more like a combo-guard – using his ample athleticism to make plays at both ends.

EJ is better suited to play off-the-ball since he has more of a scorer’s mentality (rather than being a primary distributor) and has the physical strength and quickness to defend opposing wing players.  But that is a small bone to pick since many college programs (e.g. Duke, Arizona, Memphis, UCLA, USC, etc) play two lead guards a lot these days and he has the physical tools to play at the highest level.

Wade Collie                          6’5”     Silverado (Las Vegas NV)

Smooth and fundamentally sound swingman with size has a great attitude and plenty of quality intangibles.  Collie has a nice looking jummpshot and is an underrated ballhandler.  Although he did not play as well here as we have seen him in other forums, Collie is a quality D-I prospect worth closely monitoring next spring.

Kylel Coleman                     6’0”     Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic pogo stick reminds me of former undersized UCLA off-guard Montel Hatcher…..…for those old enough to remember – rewind to the 1980’s.  Underrated shooter and ballhandler.

Glenn Pulliam                      6’6”     Durango (Las Vegas NV)

It was my first real look at Pulliam here and I came away impressed with his solid rebounding ability and consistent ability to score on the block.   Add another inch or so and Pulliam would have the size to be a legitimate mid-major D-I prospect.  One to track!

Antonio Snow                     6’1”     Canyon Springs (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic combo-guard can score utilizing a variety of moves and is a credible on-ball defender.  Quick slashing scorer has excellent D-I potential.

Milos Knezevic                    6’7”     Liberty (Henderson NV)
Skilled forward has nice offensive face-up skills with range extending to the 3-point arc.   Milos started his junior season off in impresive fashion with a 23 point/15 board effort over Silverado. Good student (3.2 GPA).

Reggie Shaw                       6’3”     Cheyenne (North Las Vegas NV)

Sleek athlete is an impressive slashing scorer and his long arms make him a harassing defender.

Tommy Tebbs                    6’0”     Coronado (Henderson NV)

Skilled combo-guard has a text-book perimeter jump shot.  Good football player too.

Kevin James                        6’5”     Mojave (North Las Vegas NV)

Big wing is a legitimate scorer who does so very often via slashing drives to the cup.

Jamel Morgan                     6’8”     Coronado (Henderson NV)

Good-looking post rebounds well and can score on the block.  Nice size!

James Holmes                    6’6”     Basic (Henderson NV)

Athletic forward rebounds well and is a West Coast sleeper in this class.  Needs to add bulk.

Marcus Moreland               6’3”     El Dorado (Las Vegas NV)

Great defender has above-average basketball IQ.  Good student (3.0 GPA).

CJ Harrell                             6’3”     Desert Pines (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic wing finishes above the rim and rebounds well for size.

Brett Hoisington                 6’0”     Coronado (Las Vegas NV)

Cerebral lead guard has an accurate outside stroke.  Good student (3.0 GPA).

Terrell Evans                       6’2”     Cheyenne (North Las Vegas NV)

Nimble off-guard has nice ability to slash and score.

Jordan Hattar                      6’0”     Spring Valley (Las Vegas NV)

Scrappy combo-guard is a great student (4.0 GPA).

DJ Dennis                            5’11”  Durango (Las Vegas NV)

Slick passing point has rock-solid handle.

Mirtrell Clark                        5’10”  El Dorado (Las Vegas NV)

Crafty lead guard has nice range on jump shot.

Class of 2010 Top Performers

Moses Morgan                    6’5”     Palo Verde (Las Vegas NV)

Great looking wing prospect has a terrific frame, is athletic and has very nice all-around offensive skills.  Moses plays hard and doesn’t mind getting on the floor for loose balls.  Father Winston Morgan played at Indiana.  Great kid has high-major potential!

Ben Vozzola                                    6’3”     Centennial (Las Vegas NV)

Definitely the major surprise of the event, Vozzola has both a high-major perimeter stroke and an excellent feel for the game.  Vozzola shot 10/11 from the field here (including 5 threes).  Jon Scheyer-type player is a very  good student (3.4 GPA).

Jonathan Loyd                   5’8”     Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas NV)

Nasty playmaker is a pest on the defensive end and is very difficult to control when he has his paws on the rock.  Outstanding competitor has high-major potential if he gets anywhere near 6’0”.  Younger brother of Bishop Gorman senior teammate Kevin and BYU guard Michael.  Father Michael Loyd Sr. played for UNLV.

Christopher Perry              6’4”     Desert Pines (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic wing is a nice slashing scorer.  Another young Vegas prospect with huge upside!

Sam Johnson                      6’3”     Legacy (Las Vegas NV)

Very athletic off-guard has nice mid-range game.  A West Coast sleeper in this class.

Strong forward is an excellent defender and effective rebounder and defender.
