Trigonis Tidbits:

“Woolridge Goes Orange; DeRozan Becomes a Trojan

as Fall Signing Period Begins”

(November 16, 2007)

6’8” senior wing forward Renaldo Woolridge (Harvard-Westlake/North Hollywood CA) committed to Tennessee last month and has just signed a NLI with Bruce Pearl’s program.  Woolridge had narrowed his list of schools to the Volunteers, USC and Georgetown after eliminating Illinois and Marquette earlier in the fall.   Woolridge signing with the Vols is significant as it signals that Tennessee (currently ranked #7 by ESPN/USA Today) is now a major national program capable of going coast-to-coast and toe-to-toe with elite national programs to snag Top 100 talent.

After a strong summer, Woolridge is quickly rising up the recruiting charts (Hoop Scoop #48 and Rivals #57) and his best days are clearly ahead of him as his body slowly settles in to catch up with his rapid growth (has grown 4 inches since his soph year) and he acquires the organized game experience necessary (played significant HS minutes for the first time last year as a junior) to fulfill his tremendous potential………6’6” senior wing Demar DeRozan (Compton/Compton CA) is expected to ink with USC on Monday.  The ultra-athletic pogo stock with skills to match will be a major Pac-10 factor the moment he steps foot on the court wearing a Trojan uniform.  DeRozan has already caught the attention of NBA-types as NBADraft.net has listed DeMar as the projected #2 pick in their 2009 mock NBA Draft……………..   Another Southern California native and ESPN.com’s #1 senior 6’2” Brandon Jennings (Oak Hill Academy/Mouth of Wilson VA) has signed (as expected) with Arizona.

After a head-turning summer, BJ continues to make noise this fall – scoring 45 points in Oak Hill’s annual scrimmage game with Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham VA) and 35 points (including 5 straight “threes”) in Oak Hill’s first game against Veritas Christian Academy (NC).  Speaking of both Jennings and Hargrave, Las Vegas native 6’3” senior James Dean is the starting off-guard on Hargrave’s varsity team this year – scoring 15 points in their opening scrimmage earlier this week.  Dean was Jennings’ teammate on a loaded Belmont Shore squad that won the RBK Summer Championships last July in Las Vegas and owns the exclusive distinction of being the only Las Vegas product ever that has played on a championship squad that has won one of the three major Las Vegas July tourneys.  Dean (a 4.0 student) is hearing from the likes of Dartmouth, Brown, Lehigh, William & Mary, Northwestern, American, NYU, Army and Air Force……………

6’6” junior forward Hollis Thompson (Loyola/Los Angeles CA) is on the verge of finalizing his college decision and all signs point to Georgetown as his choice   Stanford, UCLA, Duke and Arizona are the other major schools trying to stay involved……………6’3” junior point guard Darius Morris (Windward/Los Angeles CA) has been the object of high-major attention this fall as this excellent student (3.5 GPA) has heard from the likes of Michigan, USC, Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, Washington State, Washington, Texas, Oregon, Santa Clara, Portland and Wyoming.  Morris will contend for the title of the West Coast’s #1 PG prospect next spring and summer……………6’5” high-octane soph scorer Tyler Lamb (Colony/Ontario CA) is listing Georgetown, Texas, UCLA, Louisville, USC, Arizona, Syracuse, Duke, Ohio State, Tennessee and Indiana as his favorite schools.  Lamb has been outstanding this fall – being named as a

Top 25 selection at the 2007 Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp (scored 17 points in that game) as well as knocking in a 4-point shot (3-pointer plus the “and 1”) at the buzzer to help his White squad pull out the win at the Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase Top 20 soph game in September…………  Sometime next week the moment of truth will arrive for 6’6” man-child Leonard Washington (Marshall/Compton CA).  The Louisiana native will pick among his final 3 of Kentucky, USC and Ole Miss………………….Former youth phenom 6’10” senior Auri Allen apparently has resurfaced at Westchester (Los Angeles CA) after spending the last two seasons at Durango (Las Vegas NV) where he had trouble getting on the floor due to weight/conditioning issues.  The Comets really need Auri to be in shape this season in order to help combat Fairfax’s major addition of 6’10” junior Renardo Sydney…………..6’9” junior Anthony Stover (Renaissance Academy/La Canada CA) might be one the West Coast’s biggest Class of 2009 national sleepers.  Stover is much improved and has the size major programs covet.  Washington, Washington State, Arizona State (possibly the leader), SMU and UNLV have all offered with UCLA, USC, Cal, Florida, Stanford and Georgetown closely monitoring his development………Stover is not the only frontcourt talent present at Renaissance this year as the school recently got some good news when Louisiana import 6’7” soph DeAndre Daniels arrived on campus.  Daniels is a raw, but long and athletic forward with an upside worth paying attention to…………..Talented 6’2” point Kendall Williams (Los Osos/Rancho Cucamonga CA) is recovering from an injury sustained this fall but all signs point to 2007-08 being a big season for this young playmaker.  Duke, UCLA, Florida and Washington are the early leaders for this Top 50 caliber prospect……….6’10” senior Kris Faber (Ribet Academy/Los Angeles CA) is one of the top sleeper big men on the West Coast and the interest in him as grown steadily as Minnesota (just visited), Northern Illinois (visited), SMU, Utah, San Francisco and UC-Riverside are among the growing number of schools in the mix.
