2007 Fullcourt Press All-West Camp

Cream of the Crop Top 75 Game Selections
by Dinos Trigonis

(August 25, 2007)

The 10th version of the Fullcourt Press All-West Camp came to a close last month with the event concluding with a trio of “Cream of the Crop” games at Lynwood HS (Lynwood CA).

A big crowd was on hand including dozens of college coaches and media sitting courtside like UCLA, Arizona, USC, Washington, Stanford, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, Arizona State, Gonzaga and Boston College as well as national/regional scouts like Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram & Scouthoops.com), Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press), Joel Francisco (ESPN), Gerry Freitas (Hoop Review), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters) and Dave Keefer and Dave Rogahn (California Preps).  The level of talent on display this year reaffirmed this event as the top regional summer exposure camp in the West.

This is the third of a four part series of articles recapping this event.

Below are the 2007 Fullcourt Press All-West Camp “Cream of the Crop Top 75 game selections (in alphabetical order):

Anthony Brown                        6’3”      2010

Like HS teammate Avery Johnson (see below), Brown is an emerging high-major prospect that projects to be a skilled lead guard with size.  Father (Quintin) is 6’7”, played at UC-Irvine and was the head coach at Long Beach Wilson HS (now currently the Vice-Principal there).  At Wilson, Quentin coached former Memphis Grizzlies forward Mike Batiste (now playing professionally in Italy).

Barrett Brown                           5’10”    2007
Mountain Pointe (Phoenix AZ)

Solid point guard and pin-point passer (6 assists here) is headed to Idaho this fall as a guaranteed “walk-on”.

Kyron Brown                            6’4”      2008     Elk Grove (Elk Grove CA)

Lead guard with size has nice ability to score as well as good floor-vision that allows him to find open teammates (as was demonstrated by his 5 assists here).

Kyle Clark                                6’11”    2008     Lakewood (Lakewood CA)

Agile big man is active on the glass and has nice upside.  Excellent student had 7 points to go along with 9 boards here.

Vernon Davis                           6’5”      2008     Loyola (Los Angeles CA)

Work-horse wing has a nice perimeter stroke and does not mind battling in the paint for rebounds and put-backs.  Very good student (3.3 GPA) had 15 points and 5 boards here.

Dylan DeFeo                             6’2”      2008     Lely (Naples FL)

Great kid is an effective slashing scorer and a reliable defender.

Court Hodge                             6’10”    2008     Heritage Hall (Oklahoma City OK)

Center with size moves well on the floor and is a very good rebounder.

Trevor Hopkins                        5’11”    2008     San Marcos (Santa Barbara CA)

Fundamentally sound point has a confident handle, crisp passing ability (4 assists here) and an accurate pull-up jump shot defenders must respect.  Excellent student (3.8 GPA).

Avery Johnson                  6’3”      2010     Ocean View (Huntington Beach CA)

Excellent young guard has great court instincts and his long arms allow him to be a defensive pest.  Johnson is a deceptively good rebounder (had 5 boards here) and possesses a great work ethic which bodes well for his high-major potential.

Marcus Johnson                      5’11”    2008     Joel John (Los Angeles CA)

Quick point is much improved and is an excellent ballhandler.

Cameron Nettles                       6’5”      2008     Gahr (Cerritos CA)

Ronnie Norsworthy                  6’8”      2008     Spring Valley (Las Vegas NV)

Athletic forward is raw, but is nimble from baseline to baseline.   Ronnie scored 12 points here.

Ryan Okuudibonye                   6’6”      2010     Ocean View (Huntington Beach CA)

Emerging post-forward is very wet behind the ears, but has tremendous upside.  Ryan had a “coming out” party here in this game as he tallied 21 points (on 10/15 shooting) and 5 boards.

Nick Paulson                            5’11”    2010     La Sierra (Riverside CA)

D’Angelo Scott                         6’6”      2009     Lynwood (Lynwood CA)

Swingman has much upside and a very solid handle for size.  “Spaghetti” impressed with 14 points here.

Darrius Williams                      6’6”      2010     Jordan (Long Beach CA)

Improving combo-forward was an unknown coming into camp, but impressed us with his athleticism and his blue collar effort on the boards.
