2006 Fullcourt Press Spring League
Player Report (Part II)
(March 22, 2006)
The 2006 Fullcourt Press Spring League ended its four week run last Sunday on a high note with a day full of intense action and hotly contested games. We previously noted several top players, but the league was too deep to cover all the top prospects in just one article.
Below is the 2nd part of a multiple part installment highlighting the top ballers and performances of the league.
Jamelle Barrett 5’10” Sr. Natomas (Sacramento CA)
Strong bull is quick off the dribble and a pesky defender. Will likely attend prep school next year.
Nate Ambrosio 5’11” Jr. Don Lugo (Chino CA)
Undersized lead guard is a very effective scorer - having several high scoring games here.
Jonathan Gibson 6’0” Sr. Calvary Baptist (San Fernando CA)
Very slippery point jet is virtually un-guardable 1-on-1. Excellent “yo-yo” handle and precision passer.
Jonathan Wills 6’5” Jr. Mayfair (Lakewood CA)
Skilled wing with size has plenty of upside. Excellent student and great kid!
Durrell Norman 6’5” Jr. Serrano (Phelan CA)
Athletic wing is a dangerous slashing scorer and respected defender.
Josh Crawford 6’10” Sr. Wilson (Long Beach CA)
Rail thin center needs to add weight and strength but is very agile for size and has an impact on the game as an effective shotblocker. Very intriguing potential.
Jordan Higginbotham 6’3” So. Antelope Valley Christian (Lancaster CA)
Very underrated wing in this loaded SoCal guard Class of 2008 has a nice package of skills and gives a 100% each time out.
Auri Allen 6’10” So. Home School (HS TBA)
Massive center arrived on the HS scene as a frosh with plenty of hype, but has not had quite the impact yet many thought. Took a year off from HS basketball this school year (was home schooled) but worked out with trainer Wayne Slappy on a regular basis. Timing looked somewhat off in his two games here, but his size is worth tracking.
Quintin Watkins 6’4” Jr. Dominguez (Compton CA)
Athletic wing is a streaky shooter and very able defender. Committed to USC.
Matt Goldbach 6’0” Sr. Wilson (Hacienda Heights CA)
Combo-guard has nice scoring talents and is a intense competitor.
Zack Nelson 6’5” Jr. Natomas (Sacramento CA)
Very attractive wing has nice athleticism and ability to finish in transition.
Quamayne Crymes 6’4” So. Joel John (Los Angeles CA)
Strong and athletic lefty is an excellent slashing scorer.
Rob Ford 6’0” Jr. Campbell Hall (North Hollywood CA)
Outstanding shooter has the mental confidence of high scoring lead guards.
Nick Sanchez 5’10” So. Compton (Compton CA)
Solid point has a steady handle and is a nice passer.
Brandon Stern 5’10” Sr. John Glenn (Norwalk CA)
Productive offensive-minded guard gets a lot done.
Edger Garibay 6’9” So. Compton (Compton CA)
Soph post has nice size and a very underrated turn-around jump shot.
Jeremy Tyler 6’8” 8th San Diego CA
Big time post player reminds me of another San Diego native Jelani McCoy (UCLA/NBA). Explosive player in the paint, Tyler has an excellent drop-step move he employs with regularity for monster dunks.
Dwayne Polee Jr. 6’5” 8th Los Angeles CA
As an older saying teaches us –“an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” – and that is true for the son of former LA-City Player of the Year Dwayne Polee (Pepperdine), Long and athletic with excellent ability to finish above the rim, Polee has great potential to be a national star in this class (2010).
Tyler Lamb 6’4” 8th Chino CA
Another top 8th grader oozing with potential, Tyler has a complete package of skills that makes him a potent offensive weapon.
Dijon Horne 6’2” Jr. Ocean View (Huntington Beach)
Quick guard plays very nice defense and is an underrated outside shooter.
Justin Hawkins 6’2” Fr. Taft (Woodland Hills CA)
Savvy lead guard is an excellent defender with great upside. Terrific student.
Matt Metcalfe 6’3” Jr. Brethren Christian (Huntington Beach CA)
Shooter has plenty range on his jumper and is an improved defender. Very good student.
Taylor Begg 6’3” Jr. Diamond Ranch (Diamond Bar CA)
Begg has an excellent perimeter stroke along with a very good basketball IQ.
Matt Goode 6’9” So. Marina (Huntington Beach CA)
Rapidly improving center is long and works hard to be active in the paint.
Dino Anderson 6’6” Jr. Highland (Palmdale CA)
Strong and physical post can finish in traffic.
Bryce Smith 6’2” Jr. Taft (Woodland Hills CA)
Very good shooter with range.
Tyler Tucker 5’9” Jr. Crawford (San Diego CA)
Heady point has nice passing ability.
Chris Brown 6’5” Sr. Poly (Long Beach CA)
Strong and athletic forward has nice mid-range touch.
