2016 Pangos Arizona Showcase Report

The 2016 Pangos Arizona Showcase was held on Saturday August 6th at Desert Edge High School (Goodyear AZ).  On hand this year were media/scouts like Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press & Nothing But Net Magazine), Frank Burlison (BurlisonOnBasketball.com & McDonald’s All-American Game selection committee), Ronnie Flores (BallisLife.com, Grassrootshoops.net & Fab 50 national HS team rankings), Chad Groth (AreaCodesBasketball.com), Jerry Mullen(MullenSports.net), Gregg Rosenberg (Arizona Varsity/Rivals.com), Anthony Ray(ArizonaPreps.com), Dennis Coleman (WorldHoopsScouting.net), Mars Reel Video and Jeff Meadows (HoopsReport.com). 90-plus of Arizona’s top high school players were in attendance from the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 classes.

Below we highlight players that were selected by the media/scouts present to appear in the event’s “Best of Best Game” as well as noting several others that also performed well
.

Josh Baker                          6’0”     2019   McClintock (Phoenix AZ)
Athletic young guard with a nice 3-point shot.

Steele Bennett                    6’11”  2018   Desert Vista (Phoenix AZ)
Center with length and improving skills is an emerging 2018 prospect in the West.

Brennen Davis                    6’4”     2018   Basha (Chandler AZ)
Smooth wing with an accurate perimeter shot.

Diego Diaz-Coldwell          6’2”     2018   Corona del Sol (Tempe AZ)
Heady combo-guard makes plays on both ends.

Saikou Gueye                      6’6”     2017   Mountain Ridge (Glendale AZ)
Athletic slashing scorer is also a tough defender.  Plans on spending a post-grad year in 2017-18.

Koby Jones                         6’3”     2018   Centennial (Peoria AZ)
Strong and bouncy wing runs floor well and has an underrated outside stroke.  Potential West Coast sleeper in 2018 was one of the revelations here.

Nico Mannion                      6’0”     2020   Pinnacle (Phoenix AZ)
Fantastic freshman lead guard is equally impactful scoring the ball (deep range beyond the 3-point line) or setting the table for teammates. One of the top 2020 prospects in the nation has potential to be one of best guards ever out of Arizona.  Father Pace played at Utah and in NBA.

Bryce Meadows                  6’2”     2018   Aspire Academy (Phoenix AZ)
Strong combo-guard with confident perimeter stroke.

Malik Ondigo                       6’10”  2017   Putnam Science Academy (Putnam CT)
Very improved post player with refined scoring skills had a great summer playing for Power Factory AZ resulting in offers from Colorado, Purdue, Washington State, TCU, Memphis, Texas Tech, Utah State, UTEP and Nevada.   Will spend post-grad year at Putnam Science Academy starting this Fall.

Jaden Rollins                      6’6”     2018   Desert Vista (Phoenix AZ)
Promising swingman is an athletic forward that can finish at the cup.  Mid-major potential.

Nigel Shadd                         6’9”     2017   Tri-Cities Christian (Chandler AZ)
Very bouncy PF is quickly becoming an explosive force in the paint.  Arizona’s top 2017 post prospect is a rugged rebounder that is mobile in transition.

Emmanuel Taban               6’6”     2019   Apollo (Glendale AZ)
Athletic swingman with underrated offensive skills is a young prospect worth keeping track of.

Walter Talley                        6’7”     2019   Desert Vista (Phoenix AZ)
Strong and skilled hybrid-forward can score in a variety of ways.  Has drawn favorable comparisons to Solomon Hill (Arizona/NBA).

Dischon Thomas               6’8”     2019   Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix AZ)
Physical rebounder and defender.

Joshua Ursery                    5’9”     2019   Valley Vista (Surprise AZ)
Cat-quick young PG with impressive leaping ability was a huge surprise here.  Mother is a Los Angeles CA native.

Brenden Van Dyke                        6’7”     2017   Westview (Avondale AZ)
Late-blooming combo-forward is quick in transition and active on the glass.

Tre Vinson                           6’7”     2017   Apollo (Glendale AZ)
Athletic WF is a solid defender that can finish through contact.

Kendyl Watson                   6’6”     2020   Paradise Valley (Phoenix AZ)
Younger brother of Fresno State’s Paul Watson is a long forward oozing with potential and a must-track for mid-to-high programs.

Derrick Williams                  6’0”     2018   Tucson (Tucson AZ)
Rock-solid ballhandler can run a team well.

D’maurian Williams            6’3”     2019   Westview (Phoenix AZ)
Sturdy wing is an effective slashing scorer.
