2016 Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp Report:
Jones, Jaquez, Green & Juzang Headline Deep Group by Dinos Trigonis

The 16th annual Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp that was held at Cerritos College (Norwalk CA) on September 24-25 featured approximately 180 top 2019 and 2020 players (along with a few talented 2021 ballers) from California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and British Columbia. The depth of the talent present had media/scouts optimistic about the future of West Coast high school hoops and this platform gave talented young prospects in those classes a real opportunity to display their skills and future potential.
Former long-time NCAA & NBA assistant Dave Miller (recently a NBA analyst for the Lakers Time Warner Sports Network) opened the camp with an excellent fundamental skills session.

The camp’s top 60 players were selected by the media/scouts in attendance and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event.
In the Top 60 game, the cream that rose to the top was athletic 6-2 2020 combo-guard Josh Christopher (Mayfair/Lakewood CA). Younger brother of former Cal star/NBA guard Patrick Christopher scored 19 points (including three 3-pointers) to lead all players in that contest.
In the Top 30 game, the leading scorers were camp co-MVP 6-8 2019 Darren Jones (Cajon/San Bernardino CA), 6’3” 2019 Jarod Lucas (Los Altos/Hacienda Heights CA) and 6’5” 2019 Deon Stroud (San Joaquin Memorial/Fresno CA) - all tied for game-high scoring honors with 12 points each.
While this is a recap of the camp, please keep in mind that this is a very early look at underclass prospects that have much room for future growth and are all “unfinished” products.

Top 30 Cream of the Crop Selections
Max Agbonkpolo 6’6” 2019 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita CA Smooth SF with polished scoring skills is a legit West Coast sleeper with real high-major potential. Good student too.
Ethan Anderson 5’11” 2019 Fairfax (Los Angeles CA) Smart and productive point guard plays with poise and has real ability to make excellent decisions as well as connect for big buckets. Very good student too.
Nick Blake 6’5” 2019 Durango (Las Vegas NV)
Savvy off-guard has natural scoring instincts and knack of making plays on both ends. Very underrated West Coast prospect was recently offered by Tulane.
Daniel Boatwright 6’6” 2019 Village Christian (Sun Valley CA)
Quickly developing offensive weapon is the younger brother of 6-10 USC soph Bennie Boatwright (now an NBA prospect). Like his older bro, Daniel has legit 3-point range and his ball-handling skills are on the rise. With increased strength and expected growth, Daniel has potential to be a national recruit in the 2019 class.
Jaylen Clark 6’3” 2020 Centennial (Corona CA)
Big-time wing guard with an Ivy League academic profile (4.0+ GPA) will be a national name in the 2020 class. Clark uses his strength to ward defenders off as he attacks the hoop and his potent 3-point range extends defenses. Jaylen is already on Stanford’s radar.
Julien Franklin 6’5” 2019 Villa Park (Villa Park CA)
Long lead guard has a very nice feel for the game as well as a high skill level attractive to mid-high level programs. Like his long-term upside.
Jalen Green 6’5” 2020 San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno CA) Outstanding young talent has the complete package to be a Big Time wing at next levels. Green can score in wide-variety of ways, using his prime athleticism, high skill level and natural instincts to put points on the board. Very good student will head to Colorado Springs CO next weekend to attend the USA Basketball Junior Mini-camp.
Sedrick Hammonds 6’2” 2019 Clark (Las Vegas NV) Athletic and long-armed combo-guard pushes rock well in transition and defends with intensity. Hammonds’ stock is definitely on the rise and his play here will do nothing to stop that ascent.
Gianni Hunt 6’2” 2019 Bishop Montgomery (Torrance CA)
Quick and crafty lefty point is hard to contain off the bounce and has developed an accurate 3-point stroke. All signs point to Hunt evolving into a high-major PG with Pac12 appeal.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. 6’6” 2019 Camarillo (Camarillo CA)
Strong and bouncy wing forward is consistently productive and plays with the confidence of an emerging high-major player. Underrated rebounder and defender had plenty of big moments at this event and his fine play not only drew rave reviews from the scouts in attendance but also a share of 2019 camp co-MOP honors. Very good student has been invited to the USA Basketball Junior Mini-camp later this month in Colorado Springs CO.
Antwan January 6’9” 2019 Taft (Woodland Hills CA)
Wide-body post-forward is physical inside and deceptively explosive to the cup.
Jonathan Juzang 6’6” 2020 Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood CA)
Versatile big guard exploded for 43 points in one camp game here and his overall outstanding play earned him a share of 2020 camp co-MOP honors here. Fluid stroke from long-range as well as crafty ball-handling skills make him a tough match-up. Alabama, USC and Arizona State have already offered Juzang with UCLA, Stanford, Arizona, Cal, Georgetown and Virginia also showing serious interest.
Darren Jones 6’8” 2019 Cajon (San Bernardino CA)
Ultra-athletic pogo stick with a high motor and toughness will be a West Coast priority HM 2019 recruit. Jones has an engine that consistently operated on all cylinders at this camp and his big impact on every game he played in here earned him 2019 camp co-MOP honors (along with Jaime Jaquez). Underrated perimeter shooter was a constant fixture on the boards and was very active contesting shots. Offered already by UNLV last July, Jones also has a stellar reputation as a coveted D1 football WR.
Samba Kane 6’10” 2019 Regis (Aurora CO)
Young big from Senegal is brimming with promise! Kane runs the floor extremely well and has nice catch-&-score ability on the block. Excellent potential as a formidable rim-protector too.
Jamon Kemp 6’6” 2019 Garfield (Seattle CA)
Slithering swingman is athletic in transition and attacks the rim and finishes with confidence. Son of former NBA great Shawn Kemp has great potential of his own.
Jake Kyman 6’7” 2019 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita CA Smart and skilled hybrid-forward has a dangerous outside stroke and his high basketball IQ allows him to positively affect the game in many ways. Parents were both D-I volleyball players. Excellent student too.
Jarod Lucas 6’3” 2019 Los Altos (Hacienda Heights CA)
Rangy lead guard with very smooth, quick and accurate 3-point stroke. Off the charts student has seen visitors from UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal, Gonzaga, UNLV, Santa Clara, UC-Irvine and Boise State during this Fall contact period.
Robert McRae 6’4” 2019 Fairfax (Los Angeles CA)
Rugged WG is quick to the cup off the dribble and has the athleticism and strength to be a tenacious defender at the next level. Excellent student has also improved his perimeter shot
Chance Michaels 6’2” 2019 Gorman (Las Vegas NV)
Hard-nosed floor-leader makes wise decisions and is a very good student.
Evan Mobley 6’8” 2020 Rancho Christian (Temecula CA)
Young but rapidly developing forward has an impressive face-up jump shot that extends to the 3-point arc. As he settles into his body and strength improves with time, Evan (like his older brother Isaiah) will be a national recruit with talent and high academic credentials.
Isaiah Mobley 6’8” 2019 Rancho Christian (Temecula CA)
Skilled forward with excellent perimeter skills has a winning mindset as well as outstanding academics (4.0 GPA). Mobley’s style and physique reminds me a lot of a Jared Jeffries-typeplayer with ability to play at several different spots on the floor. Mobley is already a national name, being offered by such HM programs as UCLA, USC, Alabama, Arizona State, UNLV and TCU.
Abdul Mohamed 6’7” 2019 West Seattle (Seattle WA) Long and agile combo-forward is a very good student that left a lasting impression after his fine effort here. Abdul had previously heard from schools like Boise State and Portland State prior to this camp, but if his play here was any indication of his true abilities, I expect his list to substantially grow longer before it gets shorter. Good student with excellent attitude/work ethic.
Shemar Morrow 6’4” 2020 La Mirada (La Mirada CA) Strong and athletic wing has been invited to the upcoming USA Basketball Junior Mini-camp in Colorado Springs CO. Morrow reminds me a lot of UNC swingman Theo Pinson.
Tyrese Rankins 6’1” 2019 Grant (Portland OR) Tough combo-guard is hard to guard off the bounce and is a pesky defender.
Elijah Scranton 6’6” 2019 Village Christian (Sun Valley CA)
Athletic WF is a terror in transition with ability to finish through contact. Scranton always plays hard and his improvement since his freshman year is notable. Mid-to-high major potential.
Kirkland Smith 6’7” 2019 Fairfax (Los Angeles CA)
Active and agile PF is quick off his feet to the boards and has really refined his scoring skills which includes a very improved perimeter jump shot. There is some question whether Smith (an Executive Prep transfer) is actually in the 2018 class but nevertheless he is a very improved athlete worth monitoring.
Deon Stroud 6’5” 2019 San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno CA) Bouncy (to say the least) wing guard in the JR-Smith-mold is exciting to watch and as he improves the consistency of his perimeter scoring, he will be a touch match-up for opposing defenses.
Noah Taitz 6’3” 2020 Gorman (Las Vegas NV)
Excellent student is a tough lead guard with terrific scoring instincts. Taitz was one of the leading scorers in the camp.
Walter Talley 6’7” 2019 Desert Vista (Phoenix AZ)
Big and strong hybrid-forward is a Solomon Hill-type scorer. New York native is a solid rebounder and defender too.
Marcus Tsohonis 6’4” 2019 Jefferson (Portland OR)
Versatile and smooth lead guard with nice length is a streaky 3-point shooter and as his accuracy from deep improves, his high-major value will likely do the same. Marcus recently received a Pac-12 offer by USC.
Jaxen Turner 6’0” 2019 Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley CA) Very improved combo-guard is an excellent defender with a legit perimeter jump shot.
Makani Whiteside 6’2” 2019 St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)
High-scoring lead guard with impressive strength and rapidly emerging athleticism. Very good student too.
